Words I Hate
There are certain words I hate. They don't seem to be important for homeschooling. Although I know it can be useful for some people, many of these words have their roots in public schools.

umbrella organization
accountability
benchmark
credential
inclusive
norm or normative
socialization
alternative education
accreditation
parent-partnership
certified
approved
In fact, to me some words just scream "Certified teacher! Lookout!" Some things are useful - even important - with public school children or in a brick and mortar school. That doesn't mean they are words that are important for homeschoolers, or in your homeschool.

WHITEBOARD (as if they're the end-all, be-all)
TECHNOLOGY(see above)
emergent literacy (it's called Learning to READ)
MULIPLE INTELLIGENCES(poor Howard Gardner being taken completely out of context...)
DIVERSITY(it really means nothing anymore)
TEACH TO THE TEST (as if the info on the test isn't worth knowing?)
Anything else that is edubabble designed to be a catchy phrase which alienates yet impresses....Hmph.
"Behind," as in "my child is behind in math." I hate when I hear things like that. "Behind" whom?, I always ask.
"Normal" and "socialization." Don't even get me started...
