Biology Microscopes?
Do you really "need" a microscope?
Trina asked me about Biology - "Do I need to purchase a microscope? Apologia said it's optional but what would be better for the college bound student?"
It's optional, and it's expensive, but it's best to have a microscope. If you can afford it, buy it. If you have more children, the cost-per-child is actually VERY reasonable. If you are looking for science equipment, I love working with HomeScienceTools.com I used them for most of my science purchases, and they are WONDERFUL to work with. They have a nice section on “How to select a microscope” that can really help you decide. If you would like a suggestion for a microscope, this is like the one I got.found it very helpful to have a microscope case, to keep it safe and dust-free. This is the carrying case I chose. So if cost is an issue, biology has the most expensive laboratory equipment. You can share with others, do online labs, or choose not to do the lab science for Biology, but concentrate on labwork for your other sciences. But I think it's best to include it when you can.

I'd say if there's no way a microscope is going to happen, Google image search will do nicely. However, if your child is serious about a future career in biology, forensics, or medicine, a good quality microscope that will last into a professional career can be found at http://www.sonlight.com It's quite reasonably priced and is an incredible instrument.
